Diane Howard, from Clinton, North Carolina, purchased her ticket in a small town called Warsaw in the eastern part of the state.
The $30 scratch-off ticket Howard bought was for the Black Titanium game, which was launched in June and offered by the North Carolina Education Lottery. It had six $4 million top prizes and sixteen $100,000 prizes according to the lottery officials.
On Monday, Howard visited the lottery headquarters where she had the choice of claiming a one-time lump sum of $2 million or selecting $200,000 annually for 20 years (before taxes). She opted for the lump sum and took home $1.7 million after state and federal tax withholdings.
Lottery officials explain that there are four $4 million prizes and twelve $100,000 Black Titanium game prizes that are either still in circulation or have been sold and claimed. A winning Mega Millions lottery ticket purchased in Florida brought in $1.58 billion.
